Demystifying the Mystic
Gosh, that’s a title.
I spoke about this recently on my radio show, The Mystic Corner on Vibe25 and FB
Because it was my first episode, I wanted to begin with the most important question:
What is a mystic? What does this word really mean in our modern world?
For me, a mystic is someone who practices intuitive living while being fully human.
The mystic is the part of us that listens beneath the noise.
It’s the intuitive self, the inner compass, the quiet knowing that we are connected to something larger.
This is modern mysticism- grounded, embodied, and woven into everyday life.
Common Myths About Mysticism
There are so many misconceptions about what it means to be a mystic:
“Mysticism is woo-woo or irrational.”
“You need special gifts to be intuitive.”
“Ritual is only for spiritual people.”
“Mysticism is about bypassing real life.”
But here’s the truth:
Mysticism is practical.
Intuition is a skill, not a gift.
Ritual is simply intentional action.
The mystical supports emotional, creative, and psychological wellbeing.
Being a mystic can look like sensing when something feels “off,” being moved by nature, animals, friendships, dancing, joy - or simply allowing yourself to feel your emotions without suppressing them.
On the outside, we may look like we have it all together.
On the inside, a very different story might be unfolding.
Maybe you know that for yourself.
Mysticism isn’t about escaping reality - it’s about deepening into it.
A Personal Story: Following Intuition
I never planned to write a book.
But when my daughter lost her beloved Doberman, Inca, something extraordinary happened.
During a conversation, I suddenly felt enormous angel wings wrap around me - unmistakable, powerful, loving.
I knew instantly it was Inca, and that whatever I said next would be channelled directly from her.
My daughter felt calmer.
And in the days that followed, everything I saw was connected to animals.
My inner guidance was loud and clear.
I offered a project to anyone who had lost an animal:
I would interview them, bring through the energy of their animal, and give them a moment to say what they wished they’d said.
We ended each session with a poem about the animal’s character.
It was meant to be a small booklet.
But I was guided to write more - from a mediumship perspective.
Everything flowed with ease, and 18 months later, Best Friends Forever was born. (Can you put the link from my website to buy the book here)
That is practical mysticism in action: listening, trusting, following, creating.
Why Demystifying the Mystic Matters
In a fast-paced world, we often want answers immediately.
But being a mystic requires self-awareness, patience, and the willingness to listen inwardly.
Burnout and disconnection are rising. Often they stem from a lack of self-worth, value, or inner grounding. The only way to truly reconnect with ourselves is to slow down.
Women especially need spaces to return to their inner wisdom.
Women commonly say, “I don’t have time.”
But when life forces us to stop - when Superwoman can no longer drive the car - we finally hear what we’ve been ignoring.
Reclaiming our inner authority is essential.
We often look outside ourselves for advice we already knew.
When we value ourselves enough to listen inwardly, we begin the journey of self-trust- a guidance system that existed long before we were born.
Bringing the Mystic Into Everyday Life
Here are simple ways to weave everyday mysticism into your life:
A grounding ritual:
Stand barefoot on the earth or floor, breathe deeply, and lengthen your exhale.
Look up at the sky with gratitude.
A journal prompt:
What am I feeling right now?
Track the cycles:
Follow the moon or your own inner cycles and notice how they influence your energy.
Mysticism doesn’t require incense or ceremony. It begins with awareness.
The Sacred Voice Archetypes
In my work, I’ve noticed six archetypal ways women express their intuitive selves:
The Messenger
The Firestarter
The Soul Listener
The Intuitive Channel
The Grounded Leader
The Creative Voice
Each one holds a different flavour of wisdom and expression.
An Invitation
Reclaim your inner mystic.
She has been waiting for you.
